C4 - MOBILITY TO SWEDEN

DAY 1
On the first day, students from all participant countries have enjoyed a welcome party where some Swedish students performed a Santa Lucia concert, which usually takes place in Christmas, so the rest of the countries could see a Swedish tradition. We were also offered glögge and ginger cookies.
After that, students were split in three international groups and they attended different activities:
  • Swedish lesson
  • Swedish traditions
  • A tour around the school
After lunch, one of the English teachers prepared an activity with year 8 students around the city of Gävle. It consisted on a tour to different stations where pupils from other countries were asked to find out some things about the city. The activity took almost three hours and it was kind of an adventure!

DAY 2
On the second day, students gathered to hear about asctivity A17, in which a professional film maker was to shot some interviews with the kids and their views on migration and also personal experiences from people in Valvackskolan.
Students were asked to reflect on some questions about migration and then the film maker started shoting some interviews with the help of some teachers. After the shots were taken, teachers gathered to reflect about the different school systems of the participating countries and also how we integrate migrants into mainstream classes.
After lunch, we visited a primary school and we were guided by year 6 students through the building. We also had the chance to attend some lessons to see how the school system works.

DAY 3
Today has been an excursion day. We left Gävle early morning to go to Järvsö, almost two hours to the north of the country where we visited a nordic zoo. Unlike many other zoos, Järvzoo only houses animals that are natural to the environment. The animals also seem to have large areas to roam within uncrowded boundaries.
Visiting the park feels more like a walk through nature and forests, up the slope of a mountain, offering great views of the surroundings, and animals. In there, we had a tour in the zoo where we saw animals such as elks, reindeer, moose, a variety of owls, and bears. We even saw how they fed wolves, wolverines and lynxes!
We had lunch in the park and we had time to make some shopping too after the visit ended. It was a great day!

DAY 4
Today was a great day! In the morning, the participants in the project attended different classes to share experiences with the Swedish students. Then, with some teachers of Vallbacksskolan, we went to the gym and played traditional games from different countries.
After lunch, we walked to Brynäs IF stadium, Gävle's hockey team which, with the support of FC Barcelona, Manchester United and Unicef, carry out social projects to help the community and to help integrate newcomers. There they told us the story of the club and the programs they offer. Once finished, surprise! We were invited to ice skating... A unique experience!
Once the excursion was over, we returned to school for dinner with all host families and all the participants in the mobility. We were invited to a typical Friday dinner in Sweden: a "taco night". It was a good opportunity to enjoy a farewell dinner with everyone. This is coming to an end, tomorrow we go back home!
